TVK - "........What its all about"
Today Tom gives, in his own words, his explanations of why he is undertaking the massive challenge and what that challenge is.
The difficulties of such a major ride comes in many forms, adding to the organisational needs the more immediate challenge is to get the TVK's body, still suffering from the injuries sustained from the crash into a form that will allow him to cycle many miles each day. Tom and the other riders will need to cycle an average of 60+ miles each day for 11 weeks.
The route goes over North America's largest mountain ranges, the Rockies and the Appalachians.
Each Sunday will be a rest day but there remains little room for relaxation or the chance to make up lost time. The one thing that can be done at this stage of the ride is to get TVK's body into a fit shape.
This is being done by a rigorous fitness regime. We must thank sports coach Carl Whitehead for this.
The other area of preparation is one of repair, specialist sports therapist, Adam Dobson regularly comes to Tom's home and gives a deep sport massage to Tom as well advising on specific training and exercises that will assist Tom to complete his recuperation.
For those with a strong stomach the attached link will take you to a (be warned) graphic view of Tom being worked on by Adam.
