Goodbye Devils Tower, Hallo Spearfish

Dear Reader,

The blog today will shadow our ride from Devils Tower to Spearfish by way of Sundance, and no its not the one that has the film festival.

Our very grateful thanks go to Jim Books who has been tireless in assisting and arranging the itinerary for the week, and giving a week of his  time to the cause.  Jim is a bike tour organiser, so he really knows the ground well, he has been able to show us the very best that South Dakota has to offer and done this in a way that allows us to continue our journey. Many thanks Jim.

The day started with a the reading of the names of the UK and US service personal that have been killed in the wars since 9/11.

Today it was on the deck of the home of Frank and Julianne at their B&B high up and in the shadow of the Tower.

Its interesting that the emails and notes about the blog have been from those that like geology.  The volcano plug was very exciting it seems. Well if I see more strata I'll try and get a shot folks.

Here are the guys coming up a hill and away from the Tower.

Heading across country saw us pass through the vast plains that now produce beef, almost all Angus Beef cattle, it's interesting that the main breeds today are (Aberdeen) Angus or Hereford. Two of the most traditional beef breeds in the UK.

Then onto Sundance, I have to own up  at being excited to be there, but this was short lived, the film festival town of Sundance is in Idaho apparently.

I was able to capture the portrait of a father and son scrap metal merchants. They had three of the Blue Healer Dogs with them, they were either vicious brutes or good guard dogs depending if you were friend or foe!

More tomorrow I hope....B
