Early starts and road kill

The summer has arrived here, well its now June and although we sometimes can call June, Flaming June in the UK in this part of the world that is just what it is, Flaming June. So early starts are a  good idea, on the road by 06:00 this morning and now tucked up in our RV Park by 14:00 having cycled over 90 miles most of that time in good temperatures.

As you may be aware the photos that appear here are often a taken a day or so earlier.   Does that matter, well I hope not and it allows me to have a post 'up my sleeve' so in absence of good connections at least its possible to post something.

So enough of the background info, why the title. Well its interesting to see what sort of road kill we have here in Missouri. Yes you are right maybe not a great subject for a Blog, but wait just a minute, the animals that do get hit by cars here are very different to most parts of the world, and I also have some info about how our intrepid bikers  help out.

We often see Turtles crossing the road, and of course they take a while to cross. Poor things just don't mix well with cars and lorries.  When Alvon and Tom see the little guys they will lift them up and help them out.   Alvon brought a junior one to the RV for a photograph, Here he/she is.

So what are the animals that are on the side of the road, well in Missouri we see deer, armadillos, racoons, turtles.

So after our night in Salem we were off early on the day and the first photograph was some wonderful old motor cars at a salvage yard in the town.  It always surprises my how much old stuff there is, all great to take pictures of and very atmospheric and very good in the late dawn light.

The RV doesn't ask for much but gas (petrol) is a stop every two or three days. You never know that stations sometimes need to recruit and offer up intersting job requirements.

The back roads do seem to throw up some great stuff to see and photograph. I love the signage and often written by hand.

This was taken in the small town of Bunker, Missouri, easily found with the search Bunker MO on Google Earth.  You will see the town is surrounded by a huge wood but just one of a number in that area.  Also one of the countries biggest sources of lead. Well this is beginning to sound like the National Geographic Channel so lets move on.

The town has an old garage with a house next to it, now gently falling into disrepair...

The area reminded me in some ways of the parkland we have in the UK, normally established by careful planning by various land owners in the past, I can't imagine this was planned but very beautiful country here as well.
