Sabetha - Kansas

Dear Reader, first a big thank you BK (for the UK reader, Burger King) thank you for the  WiFi connection.

Yes we are in a fairly remote area so we don't have WiFi but BK does so the Blog can be written and posted.

In fact I am more than a little behind in posting because of the communication issues so I am going to continue where I left off but with more images, a sort of BGOF, for our American reader, Buy One Get One Free, normally said as BogOff in theUK.

On the subject of communications this is a scene from our RV, a chance to see what email is in, send a couple out, find out the weather and winds to expect during the day and anything else available on the net, but only with a connection.

The trip is going well, the bikers are getting through big mileages, and I am very glad to say the weather is and has been much better, No high winds, no 100 degree days and the bikes are behaving.

So far 2,667 miles behind us.

The town of Sebetha is a smallish town. When we arrived on Memorial Day it was pretty much closed down, except of course for the town's cemetery. Right in the heart of the town.  Memorial Day is the day on which those that have been in the military and have died, are remembered.

Through the area is a pathway on which each flagstaff carries a Stars and Stripes donated by the families of the people that have died from the town. The heads of the graves will often be decorated in the same way.

When the RV is sighted it often causes interest, the livery (for those not in the UK, the paint job) is very different to your average RV.  This time we found ourselves talking to Lafe and his family.

When they heard of what the trip was about they invited us to lunch at their home.

It was a fine lunch, the large extended family was there and  the family made us very welcome.  The food was just great of course.

The family wanted to be involved with the daily ceremony we celebrate, as readers will know, we read the names of 100 plus names from both the UK and USA each day. It will take the full journey time for us to read the 7,000 names of those that have been killed in action since 9/11.

The family wanted to use this memorial day to be involved with this, for this and for your very generous and spontaneous hospitality we thanks you.

So the town was pretty well shut down, a national holiday of course, we wanted coffee, the only place open was Subway. No coffee on but this was soon put right so a thank you to the manger there  - a great guy...

But I hear you ask where are the photogrpash of trains, wagons of coal and other riveting things that the keen viewer of  the blog has chance to look at, well fear not how about a nice motel sign...

and the motel to go with it...

and as this a BOGOF day...

and yes a grain elevator. But one made of galvanised steel...

But, and this is very special, how many readers can roller skate, and how many have seen or even used a roller skate rink?  Well how about this then?

Enjoy!
